Photography by Dr. A.W. Helton
Preservation by daughter, Rifka Helton
The images contained in MY FATHER’S IDAHO reveal rich and poignant views of 1950s and 1960s Idaho; the Clearwater RIver before Dworshak dam, Highway 12 before paving, a ‘58 Chevy at Lizard Butte, teardrop trailers blanketed in snow, kids soul-deep in wilderness, historical marker signs along the way and places changed forever by ‘progress’ and time. Dr. A. W. ‘Red’ Helton traveled the state with a curious mind and an endless appetite to record and preserve Idaho’s Wilderness Heritage. He wanted his children to know “what their childhoods had really been like.” Along the way, captured the heart of an Idaho era.
